Are Brown Eggs or White Eggs Healthier?

Posted by Lynsey N. Bourquin on

At the grocery store, there are so many options for eggs now. It's hard to know what to get, but there is one question I can answer right now. Which is healthier: brown eggs or white eggs?

First, lemme tell you what I found at the store. One dozen white eggs for $3.69 and one dozen brown eggs for $5.67. Two whole dollars more for brown eggs!

That must mean the brown eggs are healthier, right? Nope! Here's the truth...

The color of the shell is based only on the genetics of the chicken, there is NO nutritional difference. My dad would say "you're pullin' my leg!" But I'm not!

White and brown eggs have the same caloric count. That whole extra two dollars is just marketing! Crazy.

There’s also more than just brown and white eggs. There’s blue, green, pink and gorgeous chocolate brown. All the same inside, just laid by different breeds of chickens. The breed only determines the color of the eggshell, not the nutritional quality of the egg!

So why don’t we see rainbow eggs in the store? Simple! The chicken breeds that lay brown or white tend to lay more eggs per week. It’s simple math 😋

Do you know someone who needs to know brown eggs aren't healthier? Send them this and save them $2 a dozen.
